Interesting. I find Burnham a strange guy and hard to predict. I suspect he's not going early because he thinks he can fix everything in 3 years and a grateful nation will demand he stays on (yeah I know). The budget might be a clue based on the number of mad tax rises.
Yesterdays "event" at the RAF base is just a taster session for the coming period. The polls and local/by-elections will reflect the anger. Turbulent times ahead sadly, all self-inflicted.
It would make complete sense for Burnham to go for an early General Election if he could secure a fresh majority. Leave it until 2028 or 2029 and taxes will inevitably be higher and there's a good chance of a bond market crisis caused by excessive UK state debt.
I don't believe his apparent declaration of serving a full term means very much. If his stars were aligned he'd simply make the excuse that circumstances have changed and go ahead with a G.E..
The real problem for Burnham are the polling figures. The commentariate are getting excited about the latest MRP poll results but forget that Labour's current figures (in the twenties) is by any normal standard a disaster. More like the low points of Corbyn or Michael Foot.
So on balance I think there will be no early general election and the public will soon tire of Burnham's vibe base schtick and his ministers. (P.S. Why do the female minister have bob haircuts and the facial expressions ofa deputy head reprimanding a pupils mild misbehaviour?)
The Machine Politics around Labour and Burnham are astounding.
Here’s a thought. Perhaps, as Prime Minister, just for once, do something that is in the best interests of the country rather than for yourself.

Another factor that might influence an early election is the forthcoming budget.
Yeah didn’t I say that?
Apologies if I missed it.
