Your Nick Drake choice is so peaceful and calming. I always enjoy hearing the flute being played and the guitar is absolutely beautiful. I’d always wanted to play the acoustic guitar and so just over a year ago I began learning how to play, my guitar teacher is a very patient man ☺️. I’m really enjoying the journey πŸ™πŸ»πŸ’™

I had no idea Nillson's version was a cover. I enjoyed the original and the former can now go on our Spotify "Covers" playlist πŸ˜€

My favourite is the Dylan one (reminded me of Oasis a bit), also really like Simon and Garfunkel and the beach boys one. I like songs from Astral Weeks but for some reason (perhaps lack of taste) they never fully hit the spot for me. Thanks for taking the time πŸ‘πŸ»

Completely agree with you about Sam Cooke. I genuinely believe he is one of the finest singers ever. An incredible talent.

A terrific selection - some of my favourite music here (Dylan, Van Morrison, Drake). Had no idea Everybody's Talkin' was a cover, always assumed Nilsson wrote it for Midnight Cowboy.

Thanks Matthew. I can tell you are a man of considerable taste.

Yes, I eventually decided I liked the Neil one better. The Nilsson one starts brilliantly, but the vocal gets a bit weird later on.

Nixon is such a great album, and probably a bit overlooked these days. I'm pretty sure I'm right in saying it was Uncut magazine's album of the year in 2000 though. A perfect meld of country and soul.

I finally caught them live in 2017, but they were playing almost all songs from their most recent record at that point, and I wasn't too fussed on it, so it was a little disappointing.

Their albums from How I Quit Smoking to Is A Woman are great though.

Yeah I saw them live and remember nothing about it except how the venue looked.

Funnily enough, a day or two after this exchange I spotted an advert for their forthcoming tour, and they're playing in Manchester. I don't think I will go though.

Really enjoyed 9-5 (10 was blocked for me); but I've just never liked Dylan or Joni and these tracks did nothing for me.

I thought you might have sneaked "Springtime for Hitler" in there too

Finally got round to listening, so let’s go! ;)

To me though, spring starts on the sunset at 1st Feb (I like the celtic day start times…feels romantic and nostalgic. There is a Japanese word I think for a yearning for a time and place long gone.

Anyway, to me the vernal equinox is mid spring. As the light hours overtake the dark hours, things bloom into hyperdrive. (Plant hormones from light and absence of blah blah blah - which could be an allegory related to Christianity, I shall ponder on that).

Halfway between the summer and winter solstices in the northern hemisphere the sheer imagery of hurtling through space in a predictable dance is beautiful…another glimpse at the clockwork God put in place. So intricate, so massive!

Anyway, time to listen to β€˜ze tunez’! Keep up the great work :)
