Hello, I hope you won’t mind a quick bit of cross-promotion as my books channel is still very young and needs help to fly.
If you think that sentence sounds like I’ve been reading too much Japanese fiction, you are right.
Hence I have just released a new video on Haruki Murakami, particularly his extraordinarily successful novel, Norwegian Wood.
I try to work out why this strange, rather dark book resonated with so many people, compare it to his magic realist novels, and consider some of the odder aspects of Murakami’s writing life.
I also discuss whether the novel’s moral ambiguity would be permitted in our ideological age.
