No podcast today as I’m locked out of Twitter and Paul had a power cut. Hopefully tomorrow.
In the meantime, have you watched my video on the Dover and Portsmouth protests? Many people are saying it is a good one, and very balanced.
I talk about the issue of wearing masks at protests, the morality of attempting to stop migrant coaches, the response from Reform UK and Restore Britain, and much more.

Cheers,

Before watching this I had seen a bit of the UnHerd podcast with Wolfgang Munchau and Yanis Varoufakis where they were dissecting the AFD victory in Saxony and - of course - drawing parallels with the rise of the Austrian postcard-painter and the inexorable (as they see it) rise of ‘fascism’ in Europe. Varoufakis threw in a comment about ‘thugs and fascists’ in Portsmouth ‘teeming in the streets, planning a program against a few wretched refugees’. It’s lame as f, but also worse than just lame. People seem just incapable of not invoking the 1930’s spectre. It’s pathological, at this point.
After that, this podcast of yours was like a breath of fresh air. I despair of the legacy media commentariat, sometimes, although UnHerd is not exactly legacy media and isn’t too bad on some things, but they let themselves down sometimes, as does the Spectator, and this is a typical example. And, to be fair, Munchau and Varoufakis are quite good on the EU.
Anyway, your take on Portsmouth was really spot on, and coming after that knee-jerk reaction on UnHerd it really was welcome. You said it right - what are these men supposed to do?
Excellent piece Nick. I`m reminded of George Orwell and his comment about how the soft middle class elements who despise the working class will rely on "rough men" to defend them in times of conflict. I agree with you about a series of skirmishes as peoples patience explodes as new dreadful acts take place rather than some massive event.
