I take solace in the fact that if Rod is looking on, wherever he may now be, he is probably doing exactly what he’s doing in the photo above to those people who were falling over each other in their clamour to make the lowest comment.

In Rod’s case, it’s the cultural Marxist that fear that, thus hate him with Puritanical fever froth. I get your point and it is repulsive to read what these degenerates write about people, it’s also progressive politics in its putrid form. Repugnant, but all very predictable and expected.
They have nothing else to offer society. They are also incapable, literally, they find it impossible to say nothing. When their enemy meets their demise, there is no nadir they will not strive to reach and they are very successful at achieving it.

I was saddened to hear that Rod had died, I find him likeable and worth listening to, however when I heard about his Vax stance I switched off, thoughtlessy.

I will take it as a badge of honour that the people who I follow on Twitter have had nothing but warm words and true appreciation of the genius and humour of the late Rod Liddle. I have not read any of the replies to these posts.
Rod Liddle must have received such posts all day every day but his response was, in the Christian way, to turn the other cheek. Perhaps that is the lesson to us all, especially you Nick with the responses that you will no doubt receive having the temerity to write such a timely and thought-through piece.
Nick: Searching, uplifting and humane writing. Thankfully and definitely written by a talented, civilised, ethical human being and definitely not by any 'bot', common carnal dysfunctionary or garden variety puritanical hate screecher.

Rod Liddle was a sometime agent provocateur, but, also, a unique human being, that caste in itself seeming, in our time, to be a provocation: Being human in our contemporary age is viewed by sectarian idealogues as an automatic confession of guilt, thus to be draped in a garment drenched in original sin - guilty as charged.
Caged in such a straightjacket, it is the easy work of a moment to forget that 'everyone's death diminishes us'
During my time reading The Spectator I used to look forward to Liddle's columns, I can't remember if I agreed with them as I didn't take them very seriously, I just enjoyed them.
As an aside I read "Borg-like proponents" and needed to reread to understand it was Star Trek and not Wimbledon you were referring to. :D 100% my fault.
I am almost as upset about Rod as I was about Anne Widdecombe, possibly even more so as I will miss his humour so much. Also, since he gave up smoking I thought he looked (and definitely sounded) so much better I was sure he had turned his life around and had many years left so it was a real shock.
That was a really sound tribute you made there, Nick, and in theory I agree with your observations although I must admit there are a few out there whom, being charitable, I could not mourn. But I don't post derogatory things about anyone who has passed.
Just for the record, what does NPC stand for please? I know what it MEANS and sincerely doubt I am one, but when I Google it I never get the answer I'm looking for. I don't think Google recognises it as a "thing".
