On this week’s episode of The Current Thing I am joined by the Rev Dr Jamie Franklin, for a discussion about the Left’s evil response to the murder of Charlie Kirk, and how to understand it from a Christian, political, and human perspective.
Lots of food for thought here, thanks to both. These people celebrated Magdalen Berns dying young of a brain tumour years ago because they couldn't prove her wrong about trans.
"You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him." John 8:44
Can't stop thinking about this in anger but then try to remember that Jesus was still trying to reach the self-satisfied hypocrites while rebuking them.
Fabulous episode! Thoughtful, sensitive, insightful and shows us all that discussion can occur without any hate or toxicity that some others engage in.
Really good episode. I've seen Jamie on here a couple of times and he's always a thoughtful and interesting guest. I really liked what he said at the end about the devil overplaying his hand - I found it strangely comforting as I guess I've been struggling to rationalise both the murder and the disgusting responses to it; perhaps the best way to view this is as a spiritual battle.
Wonderful episode. Never listened to Jamie Franklin before. I tend to forget that vicars are often very thoughtful, interesting, and earthy people. I've met a few who weren't.
As with Simon, it's always great to see Jamie back on here - he's a voice of calm and moral clarity. I've started listening to his Irreverend podcast too, which is very good. Thank you both for an excellent discussion.
Thank you, both. Heavy heart has lightened a bit - but funny how the weight sits with you. Thankfully my folks were familiar with CK, so we could chat it through - but no one else I know knew of him - complete radio silence. Incidentally, Mum was asking after your welfare last week "How's Dick?" - she has good spidey senses. God bless you both & CK's family.
I always find your interviews with Jamie to be very thought provoking. To me there is always a contradiction. I have fought the Left for over 50 years. I absolutely detest them. Yet, I am a practicing Christian and Jamie says that we should love our enemy. So what should I do? Sorry Jamie, but I have to keep fighting the Marxist scum. They do not give a damn about my people and country. Guess I should have stayed as a heathen
Thanks Richard. There's a realism about the teaching of Christ. Loving our enemies implies that we actually have enemies. This is a reality which is not to be denied. We can oppose our enemies' ideas and their behaviour without giving in to the toxic power of hatred which ultimately leads to the kind of violence that we rightly deplore in the case of Charlie Kirk.
Also, we must remember that we are sinners too. God has reconciled us to himself through the death of Christ and he desires the same for all. J
Thank you for your measured response. I have to admit that I find the concept of turning the other cheek to be extremely difficult in the light of the kind of behaviour that I regularly encounter on the Left. Anyway, I will endeavour to persevere.
Haven't listened yet, but it will be good. You & Jamie have a real chemistry. It will be a worthy contribution to the memory of Charlie Kirk. He fought the good fight, may he enjoy his eternal reward.
If I had a minister like Jamie I would go back to church. I have considered it but I know the kind of people who go to my local church and I don't think we're on the same wavelength. I wouldn't find comfort there.
This podcast has given me a lot of comfort though. Thank you, both. And God bless Charlie Kirk.
Another very thoughtful episode that will take time to digest but is a pleasure doing so. Had to Google some of the religious references for example, which then sent me down some interesting Christian history and rabbit holes - 1 hour pod took me almost 3 hours to finish including pausing and rewinding for the research! Thank you both
It's amazing to see so many supposedly mainstream people not just making excuses but actively celebrating violence. They are thoroughly vile and we should remember it when we get into power.

You are both treasures, Nick and Rev. Jamie.

It's difficult for all of us to be sure. Blessings. J
Thank you both, you have no idea how helpful your discussion has been in guiding me to renew my faith after many long years.

Thanks so much for all the nice comments on here everybody. Blessings. J

A truly excellent episode, thank you Nick and Jamie
What an incredible conversation, thank-you both, it really did help.
Erika Kirk's speech was very strong wasn't, this does feel like a turning point.
So pleased you aren't going to give up Nick, we need you, you make a difference.
